Comfort and Elegance in Copacabana

People love big houses and spacious apartments, who doesn't? But what if the circumstances do not allow you to be hanging around in a 500 SqM apartment. This does not necessarily mean that you will have to live in a box only with a bed and a coffee table. See some ideas of how to make the most out of a small space, how to decorate it so that is says both "cutting edge" and "comfort" at the same time.

Today I am showing you a small flat in Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) which has an amazing atmosphere, and mixes up contemporary cutting edge furniture with simple comfort.

The flat offers only 45 Sqm space but is seems that the architect who came up with the idea for the interior design made the most out of the small area. As a whole the apartment represents a perfect balance between cutting edge, bold decisions and simple comfort. The combination of light and vivid colors, color palette circling around white, yellow, champagne and the non-intrusive furniture makes the place seem more spacious. The white wall and the niches following the length of the wall and the geometrical shape create the feeling that the room is bigger than it actually is. The simple white contemporary sideboard with drawers, shelves, and niches perfectly blends and fills the whole picture. The sideboard is not packed with a lot of elements and accessories which further establishes a feeling of simplicity and contemporary design. On the other hand the big fabric dark-tan sofa with contrasting champagne-and-bronze pillows makes the space not only elegant but comfortable and cozy also. The combination of different pillows in terms of color and decoration makes the room cheerful and vivid.

The small space of the apartment does not allow for a lot of rooms, but with a simple fabric divider, the owner can either decide to separate the improvised bedroom from the living room or leave it open, creating bigger space. The bedroom is simple, again we can observe the use of light colors, and something cutting edge- leather walls. In the recent years it has become very popular to cover walls with wallpapers, leather, fabric.

What really impressed me about this tiny flat, however, were not the light colors or the simple furniture, but the kitchen. The kitchen represents a perfect blend between colors and different styles. One of the walls is all covered in mosaic tiles- green, yellow, white, brown. The geometry of the whole wall creates very interesting feeling of something different, bold and very contemporary. The table and chairs are very simple but with the wooden whitish tiles on the floor and the mosaic wallpaper create a great contrast. One little tiny detail makes the whole picture very girlish and sweet- the microwave is covered with the same mosaic tiles like the wall. The rest of the kitchen is very simplistic and non-intrusive. Little details as a delicate flower, and tiny simple pendant lamps make the whole place cozy and warm.

  1. Desislava, I love the idea of the apartment in Copacabana. I am currently about to move in an one-bedroom apartment of my own and I think the way they managed to organize the place is amazing.
